2015 Late Bottled Vintage Port, Graham's, Douro Valley, Portugal
Graham’s 2015 LBV is very deep purple in colour with an intense garnet edge. The wine offers enticing aromas of red and black fruits with some lovely mint and eucalyptus notes. It is generous on the palate, with Graham’s typical opulence, revealing delicious blackberry fruit underscored by ripe, polished tannins, which give the wine great freshness and vitality. This wine has been matured in wood in the Graham’s 1890 lodge for five years after which it was bottled ready for drinking. Late Bottled vintages, as the term implies, are bottled later than classic Vintage Ports (the latter after two years). The Graham’s 2015 can be enjoyed anytime and pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate desserts as well as semi-cured and cured cheeses like Cheddar and Manchego. Once open, the wine will keep in good condition for several weeks.

Mouth-wateringly luscious, smooth and velvety, very rich and sweet (380g/ltr sugar content) with a delightfully long aftertaste.

It's Deep tawny in colour with complex nutty aromas, combined with hints of honey and figs. On the palate it displays rich, mature fruit flavours; beautifully mellowed; with a luscious, long finish.
2008 Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port, Dow's, Douro Valley, Portugal
Deep red centre and garnet rim. Fragrant notes of mint and fresh wildflowers, as well as attractive red fruit aromas. Supple and elegant on the palate with gorgeous flavours of red cherries and raspberries, garnished with peppery tannins, and a subtle dark chocolate undertone. Excellent long finish with Dow’s characteristic dry edge. A very accomplished, complete wine, offering up much pleasure now but with the structure to carry on ageing in bottle for another five to six years.
One of the Douro Valley’s finest vineyards, Bomfim is the heart of some of the company’s greatest Ports, having provided wines for Dow’s Vintage Ports ever since it was acquired in 1896. The estate is situated in the centre of the best wine-producing area known as the ‘Cima Corgo’, which offers an ideal balance between the relatively wet ‘Baixo Corgo’ to the west and the intense heat of the ‘Douro Superior’ to the east.
In the good year’s when Dow’s does not ‘declare’ a Vintage, the best Ports of Quinta do Bomfim are carefully selected and bottled as Dow’s Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port. These wines are exceptionally good. They will tend to mature a little earlier than the very rare ‘Declared’ years, but can be every bit as good as some other Vintage Ports.
Bomfim is a classic ‘River Quinta’ with several natural advantages: it is south-facing ensuring ideal exposure to the sun; its stony schist soil affords excellent drainage, allowing water to reach the vine’s deep roots; the annual average rainfall is near perfect at 800mm; the altitude ranges from 120 to 340 metres above sea level, accommodating both gentle gradients lower down and progressively steeper slopes higher up the valley side. A further advantage is the consistency of the climate, blessed with a favourable combination of temperate and Mediterranean influences, respectively from Portugal’s Atlantic coast to the west and the Spanish plateau to the east
The whole Bomfim vineyard is ‘A-rated’, the highest quality grading conferred by the region’s wine regulatory body. The vineyards are now almost entirely planted in varietal batches, meaning each variety may be picked and subsequently vinified separately, thus allowing for each grape’s maximum potential to be achieved. The principal grape varieties planted are: Touriga Franca (30%); Touriga Nacional (20%); Tinta Barroca (13%); Tinta Roriz (13%) and old mixed vines (12%), whilst other grape varieties account for the remaining 12%. Two-thirds of the vineyard is now over 20 years old, whilst one third is between 30 to 40 years old.
Wine profile: When young, Bomfim wines are purple-black, austere, complex and intensely concentrated; they are characterised by very fine peppery tannins. Over the centuries, the winemakers at Bomfim have evolved a style that suits this particular vineyard; fermentations are a little longer, resulting in a drier Port Wine that has become the hallmark of Dow’s. The grapes are normally extremely ripe at the time of picking, a direct result of the low-lying position of the main vineyard. Spice and pepper balance the black chocolate flavours and these are very evident in all Bomfim Ports. Abundant fruit flavours with hints of maple, raisins and ripe blackberries give elegance and poise to this wine. The very high percentage of Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional planted on the estate result in the powerful aromas of mint and violets on the finest Ports from Bomfim.
Winemaking: Bomfim’s wines are vinified in the quinta’s fermentation vats which have been successively upgraded over the years and which continue to produce excellent wines. Selected batches of wines are also made at Dow’s other winery, Quinta do Sol, just a short distance downstream where the prototypes of the revolutionary robotic lagares were first trialled in 1998 and 1999.
1985 Vintage Port, Royal Oporto
The Real Companhia Velha is the oldest and most emblematic wine company in Portugal, with more than 260 years of uninterrupted activity in the production of Port wine. Owner of some of the best farms in the Douro, the Real Companhia Velha is known to preserve and honor its tradition, but at the same time looking to the future, through a constant process of modernization and experimentation in the Douro region.
The excellent, vibrant 1985 vintage produced this classic port. A classic nose and a rich sweet full bodied taste will delight any port drinker.
Pellegrino are one of the leading producers of Marsala. They produce a range of styles, including this delicious ruby coloured marsala. As a younger style of Marsala it retains the cherry and plum flavours from the red grapes, but alongside the fruit are spicy flavours from a period of barrel ageing. It's a fortified sweet wine and can be treated quite like a young Port. It's great with chocolate and cheese.
1999 Colheita Port, Feuerheerds, Douro Valley, Portugal
Colheita 1999 has been carefully selected and matured in seasoned oak casks to produce a rich mellowness with finest balance and elegance of old tawnies. This wine is aged in barrel and has tawny red hues and concentrated sweet, spiced fruit flavours, balanced by gentle acidity in the mouth.
Oloroso Dry Sherry, Barbadillo, Jerez, Spain
The oxidised nature of Oloroso makes it a great sherry to have in the cupboard as it will retain its character for some time once openened, if you can resist polishing it off straight away of course. Its deep colour, roasted nut and dried fruit character and long finish make it almost irrisistable. It's delicious with food, especially raised game pies and spiced lamb tagines.

The Master Blender also sets aside wines for future generations. Graham's 40 Years Old Tawny Port is for those who appreciate the extraordinary, complex and subtle taste of time. The golden amber colour, with a pale green tinge at the rim, denotes the great age of the port. The aromas are very complex with a powerful fragrance that expresses its age, and on the palate an array of flavours, from delicate fruit and raisins, to toasted toffee and chocolate, lead to a long and hugely satisfying aftertaste.

Graham's have created this No. 5 White Port to appeal to the many consumers who don’t currently drink Port on a regular basis. It's made from their most aromatic grape varieties and has a light floral finish which makes it perfect for mixing. As such, it's perfect for making a delicious ‘P&T’ (White Port and Tonic).

Aged in seasoned oak pipes (534 litre casks) for an average of ten years and blended to a consistent marque each time it’s bottled. Much lighter than Vintage Port, these wines are delicious when served slightly chilled and are sometimes drunk as an aperitif as well as after a meal.

In 1815, German trader Dietrich Matthias Feuerheerd founded the company, by the same name, in Oporto. There he selected and aged the finest blends before shipping them to Northern Europe. The brand became famous for its vintage Ports, which in England became known as 'Anchor Ports', due to the dintinctive logo on the bottle. In 2010, the brand was acquired by Barao de Vilar, giving birth to a new partnership between the Van Zellars and the Barros family, who were determined to revive the the long tradition of quality Feuerheerd Ports. Both families have connections to the wine trade stretching back centuries. Today, the Ports are crafted by head winemaker Alvaro van Zeller, who focuses on creating the finest quality aged-Ports.
Rosso Vermouth di Torino, Chazalettes
A red-wine based Vermouth di Torino produced according to the authentic recipe of Clemente Chazalettes, which dates back to 1876. Alongside the distinctive wormwood, you may find notes of Piedmontese herbs, marjoram and musk mallow as well as exotic sandalwood and coriander. This Vermouth is named after Queen Margherita who, in 1907, granted to Chazalettes the royal patent and the use of the House of Savoy coat of arms. Della Regina translates from Italian as: ‘of the Queen’.
Bianco Vermouth della Regina, Chazalettes
Vermouth Bianco della Regina is a Vermouth di Torino characterized by intense floral and fruit aromas. Sweet citrus, coriander, angelica and scented cardamom are well integrated with Piedmontese Artemisia, while bitter notes of gentian and rhubarb balance the natural sweetness of this Vermouth Bianco. This vermouth is dedicated to Queen Margherita who, in 1907, granted Chazalettes the honour of bearing the House of Savoy coat of arms. Della Regina translates from Italian as: ‘of the Queen’.
2005 Quinta do Panascal Vintage Port, Fonseca, Douro, Portugal
Opaque purple black with a narrow magenta rim. The nose is rich and exuberant, brimming with dark, seductive blackberry and cassis aromas laced with liquorice and treacle. The round, luscious palate follows through with a dense jammy infusion of wild berries and a mouthful of velvety tannins. The sumptuous fruity flavours of the mid palate are lifted by an attractive dryness and tannic grip on the finish
Fino Perdido 1/15 Butts, Sanchez Romate
Called Lost Fino, this is a rich but dry and mature style of Jerez Fino, about 8 years old, bordering on a Fino-Amontillado that is rarely seen today. Deep gold colour, intense flor character, a combination of appley aromas and the yeasty aromas of bread dough, with a rich, ample and profound palate which finishes clean and fresh. Its rich flavour would stand up well to many foods. This includes many shellfish such as langoustines, crab, or red tuna stewed with onions. It will accompany most cheeses well too. This wine as been minimally treated to get the maximum flavour into the bottle.
Since 1781 Sanchez Romate has been family-owned and established in the same Bodegas in the town of Jerez de la Frontera. With vineyards in the Balbaina district on deep chalky soil and extensive soleras of Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez, Sanchez Romate are one of the few independent Sherry makers with control over the whole process from vineyard to bottle.
2003 Vintage Port, Taylors, Douro, Portugal
"The 2003 Taylor’s has a lovely ripe, primal bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, vanilla and marmalade that shows slightly better delineation than the Fonseca. The palate is medium-bodied with very composed, refined tannins that belie the heat of that summer. There is wonderful focus here and fine tension, the finish offering precise notes of black cherries, mulberry, cloves and white pepper. 1994 Vintage Port, Martinez, Douro, Portugal
A fabulous Port from this under-the-radar Port house. Martinez are one of the oldest producers in the Douro Valley (although ownership has changed in recent years) and in the universally declared 1994 vintage they really came back with a bang. Heavily praised in the late 1990s as a superb young Port, it has now mellowed and developed some wonderful mature characteristics. It's not a heavyweight, but it has lovely balance and combines fruit with gentle spice, chocolatey notes and dried fruits.
