We are delighted to be welcoming Eric Wente to Baythorne Hall this February to present his family's exceptional range of wines. Eric is one the 4th generation of winegrowers at Wente Vineyards, is the former CEO and current Chairman of the Board. His generation have been running operations at the estate since 1977, and as they hand over to the 5th generation we're delighted that Eric has more time now to visit the UK and show off their exceptional range of wines. The Wente range is one of the few that has been on the shelves here at Baythorne Wines since the day we opened for business, and we strongly believe that they are amongst the best value for money wines we sell.
Founded in 1883, Wente Vineyards is the oldest continuously operated, family-owned winery in America. The Wente Estate is comprised of vineyards in the Livermore Valley, San Francisco and Arroyo Seco – each with its own special growing conditions. The Livermore Valley, just twenty miles east of San Francisco Bay, benefits from a unique marine climate that is influenced by the Bay and Pacific Ocean. Arroyo Seco, Monterey, is a cooler region with an extended growing season which enables the grapes to retain their natural acidity and intense varietal character. Soils replete with shale and limestone deposits provide excellent drainage and minerals, both of which impart significant flavour components and balance to the wines. Wente produce a number of different wines from their vineyards in these appellations.
This evening wine dinner is your opportunity to try the wines side by side and experience the different characteristics between varieties and vineyard areas. The wines will be served alongside a typically Californian menu, dreamed up by our favourite pair of chefs, Alan Paton and Matt Wilby. Alan and Matt have been regular chefs here over the past 18 months, and such is the consistently high quality of the food they produce we can guarantee a great evening out for both foodies and wine lovers alike.
