2017 'Brookby Hill' Pinot Gris, Two Rivers, Marlborough, New Zealand
Textured and just off-dry in style, this multi-layered and thought provoking Pinot Gris is opulent yet thirst quenching, beautifully balanced, with glossy texture and has a great line of acidity.
Lovely fine aromatics, revealing fresh pear, Jasmine and orange blossom notes. Textured and dry in style, this wine has white peach and mandarin peel flavours, mingled with an elegant salinity and chalkiness. This Pinot Gris is well balanced, softly textured, and has great mouthfeel and persistence of flavour.
Sourced from our Brookby Hill vineyard in the Southern Valleys, the fruit was handpicked off single cane, high density vines and gently pressed to retain freshness, fruit purity and varietal character. The cold clay soils from Brookby Hill provide great acidity in the wine. The wine was partially fermented in French oak barrels and kept on fine lees for 4 months to add granular mouthfeel and complexity to the palate.
Established in 2004, Two Rivers of Marlborough takes its name from the iconic rivers that feed the wine growing heart of Marlborough's renowned Wairau and Awatere Valleys. It was in the Awatere valley, overlooking the braided river, that Two Rivers founder and winemaker, David Clouston, spent his childhood. He now lives in the Wairau Valley, where he has made his home and his mark on the wine industry.
Two Rivers of Marlborough's mission is to select the finest parcels of fruit from the banks of both the Wairau and Awatere rivers and to craft wines that express the different microclimates peculiar to these two rivers. The aim is to capture and emphasise the intense power of flavour for which Marlborough is famous while adding complexity and elegance to our wines through traditional winemaking techniques. It is this complexity and elegance with a slight European flair that has seen Two Rivers of Marlborough produce award-winning wines of great standing and concentration.
