2017 Carmenere Reserve, Santa Carolina, Cachapoal Valley, Chile
A deep, rich and complex wine with dark plum fruit flavours, cassis, currants and hints of spice on the long finish. The grapes were grown in the La Rinconada vineyards in the Rapel Valley, close to the Cachapoal River, which receives a large amount of rain during the short winter months and has long summers of cool breezes and sunshine. Temperatures vary greatly from warm days to cool nights which allow the grapes to ripen slowly to maintain natural acidity and develop complex flavours. The wine was then aged for 8 months in French and American oak barrels before being bottled. This wine suits red meats, spicy sauces particularly curries and mature cheeses.
