A traditional Passito Liquoroso from the volcanic island of Pantelleria, this wine is made by Cantine Pellegrino from 100% Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria), a grape long associated with the island’s distinctive sun-dried sweet wines.
Tasting Notes:
Deep golden in colour. The nose is intense and expressive, showing candied citrus peel, dried apricot, orange blossom and subtle notes of vanilla and sweet spice. On the palate, it is rich and gently viscous, combining flavours of dried fruit, marmalade and ripe tropical fruit with lifted citrus freshness that brings balance and definition. The finish is long, warming and aromatic, with lingering notes of citrus and honeyed fruit.
Winemaking:
Produced on the island of Pantelleria from Zibibbo vines grown on volcanic, sandy soils. Grapes are harvested from late August into September, with part of the fruit traditionally air-dried to concentrate sugars and aromatics. After soft pressing and controlled fermentation, the wine is fortified with grape spirit to retain natural sweetness. It is then matured in stainless steel at controlled temperatures for several months before release, preserving freshness alongside its rich passito character.
Food Pairing:
A natural match for almond biscuits, ricotta-based desserts and honeyed pastries. It also works well with blue cheeses, or as a rich, fragrant digestif.
