2019 Sauvignon Blanc, La Girouette, Languedoc, France
A staff favourite here, and one of the best value wines in our range. It's just as good Sauvignon Blanc should be; fresh, aromatic, vibrant and very easy to drink. There is a classic herbal, slightly leafy edge to the tropical aroma, yet on the palate it is citrus characteristics that come through on the finish. In all this is a classic Sauvignon with great versatility.
2019 Grauer Burgunder Trocken, Fritz Walter, Pfalz, Germany
Think you don't like German wine; then think again. This really is exceptional for the price. Grauer Burgunder is the German name for Pinot Gris, or Pinot Grigio as the Italians call it, and the word 'Trocken' indicates that it is dry. It is, however, a far more serious and opulent wine than many labelled as Pinot Grigio. Although the wine leaves a delightfully fresh and vibrant finish, it has some fabulous texture and body. On the palate it is tropical mango and peach that dominate, yet it is the grapefruit flourish on the finish that really gives it a lift.
Once tasted we are convinced this will convert a lot of sceptics on to German wine.
2018 Mâcon Lugny St Pierre, Bouchard Pere et Fils, Burgundy, France
Mâcon-Lugny is a village appellation growing in the wider area of Mâcon-Villages appellation, and located in the middle of an area formed by Mâcon, Cluny and Tournus. The vineyard combines different exposures that result in different levels of earliness for the grapes. The terroir is for a great part made of limestonefrom the Jurassic era that is perfect for the Chardonnay, but there are also flint clay soils and marls. They all contribute to give the wines their freshness and fruity aromas, as well as their rounded caracter. Grapes were slowly pressed and after settling the must at low temperature, the fermentation takes place in temperature controlled vats so to preserve the freshness and natural fruitiness of the Chardonnay. Then the wine is aged partly in vats and partly in oak barrels in order to emphasize its structure and give it more richness. The proportion of vat and oak is our winemaker's secret; he works in accordance with the vintage to make the grapes and its terroir outstand in the wine.
2019 Organic Pinot Grigio, Ingeno, Sicily, Italy
This organic Pinot Grigio from Sicily has a fragrant nose of ripe yellow apple and spiced pear. The palate is rich and fruity with a smooth mouth-feel balanced by refreshing acidity. A beautifully made wine to be enjoyed chilled either on its own or with spicy salads and cold meats.
2019 Cotes de Gascogne Blanc, Le Havre de Paix, Gascony, France
This is a really easy going white from the south of France. It's a blend of Sauvignon, Ugni Blanc and Colombard, three varieties that are known to produce fresh and fruity wines, and that's just what we have here.
2019 Sauvignon Blanc, Marquis de Goulaine, Loire Valley, France
This is a great little Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. It may not quite be a Sancerre but it still shows some fresh gooseberry and a hint of riper tropical fruit. There is a subtle herbal note on the finish, which is classic Sauvignon, and the acidity gives it a fresh lift at the end. This is definitely a wine to have in the rack as it will appeal to many white wine fans.
2019 Picpoul de Pinet, Domaine Morin Langaran, Languedoc, France
Delicate and fresh with excellent refreshing acidity and structure. Lots of ripe melon and pear fruits and a lovely crisp dry finish. This is exactly the type of wine that the French guzzle with their seafood on the Mediterranean coast, and with seafood and summery salads is definitely when it's at its best.
2019 Pinot Grigio, CaDel Lago, Veneto, Italy
For a Pinot Grigio at this price there really is a lot on offer from this wine. It has a little more weight and texture than many all too bland examples, and it's certainly not lacking in flavour. A combination of ripe stone fruit and pear make this a very approachable and easy to enjoy wine.
2020 Sauvignon Blanc, Umbrele, Vilie Timisului, Romania
Another great value wine from Romania, and a style that will appeal to many. This is a light and classic Sauvignon with the emphasis on fresh fruit on the palate and vibrancy on the finish.
2020 Little Cricket Gruner Veltliner, Hungary
Dry, clean, and crisp with citrus notes, yellow plum, light green apple, & a hint of white pepper. Excellent as a starter/aperitif or pair with savoury starters, pasta & seafood dishes including tapas, antipasti, shrimp salad & sushi
2019 Altano Branco, Symington Estates, Douro Valley, Portugal
This wine comes from the Douro Valley in northern Portugal and is produced from grapes grown in higher altitude vineyards where cooler temperatures provide the ideal conditions for the even maturation of white grapes. The result is a zesty, aromatic wine with tropical fruit flavours and a refreshing crisp acidity.
2020 Sauvignon Blanc, Hidden Bay, Marlborough, New Zealand
This is a great introduction to New Zealand Sauvignon. It has a wonderful aromatic intensity on the nose and on the palate it displays a wealth of ripe fruit that finishes with a citrus flourish.
2019 Sauvignon Blanc/Gros Manseng, Vignobles Fontan, Gascony, France
An exceptional southern French white from the Armagnac region. Vibrant and fruity Sauvignon Blanc is given a bit more depth and roundness with the addition of some Gros Manseng.
Lots of Intensity on the nose with ripe peach, pear and some exotic notes of pineapple. Full, rounded mouthfeel with apricot and hints of mango, backed up by juicy grapefruit citrus.
2019 Albarino, Calazul, Galicia, Spain
This is yet another wonderful Albarino that has made its way to the UK. The grape variety has forged a reputation for producing wines that are fresh and fruity, and in this wine from Calazul we have an excellent example. It is a little lighter than some Albarinos (the variety can produce quite heavy whites), but is just as loaded with tropical fruit, and the citrus on the finish gives it a very refreshing character. Delicious with seafood or just as a glass on its own.
Viña Mariposa Blanco, Vino de España, Galicia, Spain
Dry, delicate whites are definitely in fashion at the moment, and that's exactly what we have here. The grape blend is Airen and Verdejo, both Spanish specialities, and here they have produced one of the easiest drinking wines we stock. Perfect for parties and large gatherings, it will be enjoyed by all.
2020 Reuilly, Domaine Aujard, Loire Valley, France
Reuilly is a Loire Valley village not far from the famous villages of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume, and it's white wines are made in very much the same way and, whisper it, often to the same quality.
This Reuilly really stood out for us in recent tastings, and given the current price tag of good Sancerre it was a very easy decision to add it to the range.
It's got a vibrancy and minerality that good Loire Sauvignon should. There's a hint of passionfruit in the background, but the dominant characteristic is more vibrant apple and citrus with a hint of elderflower. A very versatile wine as at home with a delicate piece of fish as it is with well herbed roasted veg.
