Description

Domaine Chartreuse produces this classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape from vineyards spread across several communes within the appellation, including Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Bédarrides and Sorgues. The estate’s vines, with an average age of around 40 years, are planted on the region’s distinctive soils of rounded pebbles, known as galets roulés, which store warmth during the day and release it slowly through the night to aid even ripening. The result is a powerful yet balanced southern Rhône red that reflects both the richness and complexity of this historic appellation.

Tasting Notes
Deep and intense in the glass, the nose reveals aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum, layered with notes of spice and garrigue herbs. The palate is full-bodied and structured, with ripe tannins supporting flavours of dark summer berries, liquorice and gentle pepper. The finish is long, warming and persistent.

Winemaking
A traditional blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Bourboulenc, Clairette and Roussanne. The grapes are harvested by hand at full maturity and partially destemmed before fermentation in concrete vats for around 21 days. The wine is then matured for approximately 12 months in oak barrels to develop depth and structure while preserving the character of the fruit.

Food Pairing
A natural partner for roast lamb, rib of beef, duck breast, game dishes or mature cheeses. Its richness also complements robust, spiced dishes.

ABV: 15.5%
