Altano Douro Red is a classic expression of Douro table wine from the Symington Family Estates, one of the region’s most established producers with deep roots in both Port and still wine production. Made from traditional Douro varieties grown across the family’s vineyards in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior sub‑regions, this wine reflects the balance of fresh fruit and structure that the Douro is known for.
Tasting Notes:
Deep crimson in the glass, this Altano Red reveals scented floral aromas supported by focused, fresh red fruit. The palate is generous and well structured, with flavours of ripe plums, juicy red berries and subtle spice, framed by soft, ripe tannins and a lingering, elegant finish.
Winemaking:
This wine is crafted from a blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, fermented in stainless steel with gentle maceration to extract colour and aromatics while preserving freshness. A proportion of the wine sees maturation in used French and American oak barrels, adding subtle complexity without dominating the fruit.
Food Pairing:
Pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, hearty pasta dishes, rich ragu or Portuguese classics like bacalhau à brás (salt cod, potatoes, and sautéed onions bound together in creamy, softly scrambled eggs). Its fresh acidity and smooth tannins also make it a versatile match for lighter meat and vegetable dishes.
