A magnificent mature Bordeaux from one of Pauillac’s most celebrated estates, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a Second Growth renowned for combining the power and structure of Pauillac with an unusually graceful, seductive character. From the outstanding 2000 vintage, this beautifully evolved wine offers remarkable complexity, depth and refinement, with decades of bottle ageing bringing its fruit, tannins and savoury nuances into harmonious balance.
Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet in colour with mature brick-red highlights, the nose is wonderfully complex and expressive, revealing aromas of cassis, blackberry and dark plum alongside cedar, tobacco, graphite and dried violet. With time in the glass, layers of leather, forest floor, cigar box and subtle spice emerge. The palate is rich and beautifully structured, with mature dark fruit framed by fine, silky tannins and fresh acidity. Notes of cedar, earth and mineral graphite add further complexity, leading to a long, elegant and persistent finish.
Winemaking:
Produced from a classic Bordeaux blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Fruit is carefully selected from the estate’s vineyards in Pauillac before traditional fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels. Extended bottle ageing has allowed the wine’s powerful structure to soften and integrate, revealing the layered complexity and distinctive elegance for which Pichon Lalande is renowned.
Food Pairing:
An exceptional partner for roast fillet of beef, rack of lamb, venison and other fine game dishes. It also pairs beautifully with truffle, wild mushrooms and mature hard cheeses. At this stage of its development, careful decanting to remove sediment is recommended, although prolonged aeration should be avoided to preserve its delicate mature aromas.
ABV: 13%
