Description

A powerful and beautifully mature Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from an exceptional Bordeaux vintage, Vieux Château Mazerat is a small-production wine combining 65% Merlot with 35% Cabernet Franc. Produced from old vines on the Right Bank, the 2010 offers impressive concentration and structure alongside the complexity and refinement that have developed through more than a decade of bottle ageing.

Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet in colour, the nose is rich and complex, with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and dark plum layered with violet, tobacco, leather and dried herbs. Further notes of liquorice, mocha, cedar and graphite emerge with time in the glass. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe dark fruit framed by polished tannins and balancing freshness. Savoury spice and mineral notes add complexity, leading to a long, powerful and persistent finish.

Winemaking:
Produced from a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, with fruit sourced from an old-vine parcel in Saint-Émilion on clay and limestone soils. The Cabernet Franc vines date back to 1947, contributing additional concentration and complexity. The wine is matured in oak, bringing structure and subtle toasted character while allowing the richness of the fruit and mineral qualities of the vineyard to remain at the forefront.

Food Pairing:
An excellent match for roast or grilled beef, rack of lamb and slow-braised short ribs. It also pairs beautifully with venison, wild mushrooms, truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses. Decanting before serving will allow its mature aromas and layered complexity to open fully.

ABV: 14.3%
