An iconic traditional Rioja from the historic Bodegas R. López de Heredia in Haro, Viña Tondonia Reserva is celebrated for its remarkable elegance, complexity and longevity. Produced from the estate’s famous Viña Tondonia vineyard beside the Ebro, this beautifully mature red combines refined red fruit with savoury, earthy nuances and the distinctive complexity that comes from exceptionally long ageing.
Tasting Notes:
Bright garnet red in colour with brick-red highlights, the nose is wonderfully complex and evolving, revealing aromas of red cherry, raspberry and dried strawberry alongside rose petal, tobacco, leather and sweet spice. The palate is elegant and finely structured, with vibrant acidity and polished, silky tannins framing layers of red fruit, dried herbs, cedar and subtle vanilla. Notes of forest floor, balsamic herbs and gentle spice develop towards a long, savoury and beautifully persistent finish.
Winemaking:
Produced predominantly from Tempranillo, complemented by Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo, grown in the estate’s historic Viña Tondonia vineyard near Haro. Traditional fermentation is followed by exceptionally long maturation in old American oak barrels within López de Heredia’s historic cellars. Extended bottle ageing before release allows the wine to develop its characteristic harmony, aromatic complexity and unmistakably traditional Rioja character.
Food Pairing:
An excellent match for roast lamb, grilled beef, venison and slow-cooked pork. It also pairs beautifully with game birds, mushroom and truffle dishes, charcuterie, traditional Spanish stews and mature Manchego cheese.
ABV: 13.5%
