An exceptional dry Riesling from the historic Famille Hugel estate in Riquewihr, Grossi Laüe takes its name from an Alsatian expression associated with the finest vineyard sites. Drawing on the distinctive terroir of the hillsides surrounding Riquewihr, the 2016 vintage combines remarkable precision, concentration and elegance with the mineral character for which Alsace Riesling is celebrated. A beautifully structured and age-worthy wine, it offers both immediate complexity and impressive potential for further development.
Tasting Notes:
Bright golden yellow in colour, the nose is wonderfully expressive, revealing aromas of ripe citrus, white peach and yellow apple alongside delicate white flowers, crushed stone and a subtle hint of honey. With air, more complex notes of candied lemon, dried herbs and gentle petrol minerality emerge. The palate is dry, concentrated and finely textured, with layers of ripe orchard fruit and citrus supported by vibrant acidity and a pronounced mineral backbone. Elegant yet powerful, it finishes exceptionally long, with lingering notes of lemon zest, saline minerality and delicate spice.
Winemaking:
Produced from 100% Riesling grown in carefully selected vineyard parcels around Riquewihr, where the varied soils and favourable hillside exposures contribute depth, structure and ageing potential. The grapes are carefully harvested and gently pressed, with fermentation managed to preserve the purity and complexity of the fruit. Maturation allows the wine to develop texture and harmony without overshadowing its varietal character, reflecting the Hugel family's commitment to expressing the quality of its vineyard sites.
Food Pairing:
An excellent match for lobster, scallops, turbot and delicate seafood dishes. It also pairs beautifully with roast poultry, pork with aromatic herbs, Alsatian specialities, lightly spiced Asian cuisine and mature Comté cheese.
