A refined expression of Pinot Noir from Moorooduc Estate, the 2018 vintage showcases the estate's commitment to quality and minimal intervention winemaking. Established in 1982 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc Estate is a small, family-run winery renowned for producing complex and food-friendly wines. The estate emphasizes top-quality fruit, produced through intensive, hands-on work in the vineyard and minimal use of chemicals. The wines are fermented using wild yeasts and minimal intervention to allow them to express the character of their individual sites.
Tasting Notes:
The 2018 Pinot Noir presents a bright garnet colour. The nose is expressive, offering aromas of red cherries, violets, earthy complexity, and subtle hints of licorice and spice. On the palate, the wine reveals juicy cherry fruit complemented by savoury undertones and firm, velvety tannins. The juicy fruit balances perfectly with crunchy acidity, firm tannins, and a long, mouthwatering finish.
Winemaking:
The 2018 Pinot Noir was hand-harvested and 100% destemmed. It underwent wild yeast fermentation and was aged in French oak barrels for 17 months, with 25% of the barrels being new. The wine was neither fined nor filtered, adhering to Moorooduc Estate's philosophy of minimal intervention to express the true character of the fruit.
Food Pairing:
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including roast duck, grilled salmon, and mushroom risotto.
