A carefully crafted, organic blend of Sauvignon Blanc (85%) and Semillon (15%) from Hans Herzog Estate, the 2020 ‘SurLie’ reflects the purity and intensity of Marlborough’s premier vineyard sites. The addition of Semillon enhances texture and mouthfeel, giving the wine richness and balance while maintaining the vibrant varietal character of the Sauvignon Blanc.

Tasting Notes:
Pale straw in colour, the wine shows aromas of white peach and red grapefruit, complemented by subtle minerality. On the palate, the Sauvignon Blanc delivers freshness and lift, while the Semillon adds depth and a silky mouthfeel. The wine is dry, with bright acidity and a persistent, complex finish that lingers elegantly.

Winemaking:
The hand-picked grapes were processed quickly on-site to preserve freshness and purity. The wine underwent long skin contact for added texture, followed by wild fermentation in French oak barrels, with 20% new oak. It was aged on fine lees for 20 months, with gentle stirring during the first three months to enhance complexity, silkiness, and depth. Minimal intervention was employed, with no cold stabilisation, light filtration, and no purchased grapes used.

Food Pairing:
Ideal with grilled fish, baked chicken, or goat’s cheese, where the vibrant acidity and textural richness of the blend complement a variety of dishes.
