A structured and characterful Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Vieux Château des Combes 2020 reflects both the richness of the vintage and the finesse of its limestone and clay-limestone terroir. Situated near Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, just outside the historic village of Saint-Émilion, the estate produces classic Merlot-led Bordeaux with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc adding structure and aromatic lift.
Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet in the glass, the nose is expressive and layered, opening with ripe black cherry, cassis and damson, followed by notes of violet, sweet spice, cedar and subtle cocoa. The palate is full and generous, showing concentrated dark fruit framed by polished, velvety tannins. A proportion of oak ageing contributes gentle notes of vanilla, spice and toast, integrated seamlessly into the fruit. The finish is long, composed and savoury, with both freshness and depth suggesting excellent ageing potential.
Winemaking:
A traditional Saint-Émilion blend led by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The wine is matured in French oak barrels for approximately 12 months, allowing structure and complexity to develop while preserving fruit purity and balance.
Food Pairing:
Well suited to roast beef, lamb, venison and rich slow-cooked dishes. It also pairs beautifully with mature cheeses, where its structure and depth complement more intense flavours.
ABV: 14.5%
