Description

Rubicon is the flagship wine of Inglenook, the historic Rutherford estate founded in 1879 and now owned by the Coppola family. Produced from the finest parcels across the estate’s vineyards, this wine reflects Inglenook’s long-standing ambition to create a Napa Valley red capable of standing alongside the great wines of Bordeaux while maintaining its own distinctive Californian character. Since 2016 the estate’s winemaking has been led by Philippe Bascaules, formerly of Château Margaux, whose experience has further refined the estate’s pursuit of balance, structure and elegance.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour with violet reflections, the nose gradually reveals aromas of blackberry, cassis and black cherry, layered with notes of espresso, clove and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is structured yet refined, with silky tannins supporting concentrated dark fruit flavours. Nuances of tobacco, liquorice and anise emerge on the long, seamless finish, giving the wine both depth and complexity.

Winemaking
The 2019 blend is composed of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot sourced from several estate vineyard blocks including Apple, CASK, Cohn, Creek, Gio, La Lomita, Lower Garden and Walnut. Following a growing season marked by steady ripening and excellent fruit development, the grapes were harvested over a 36-day period beginning in mid-September. The wine was then matured for approximately 20 months in French oak barrels, 74% of which were new, to develop structure and complexity.

Food Pairing
An exceptional partner for prime cuts of beef, roasted lamb, venison or richly flavoured dishes with earthy or savoury elements.

ABV: 14%
