Domaine de la Côte de l’Ange, managed by Corinne Mestre and her family, is a family-owned estate with deep roots in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyards, located across several prestigious parcels including Le Coteau de l’Ange, La Nerthe, and Les Terres Blanches, benefit from clay-limestone and sandy soils with the region’s signature galets roulés. The estate combines respect for tradition with careful, environmentally conscious viticulture, including hand harvesting and minimal intervention in the vineyard, producing grapes of exceptional quality.
Tasting Notes
A vibrant ruby red, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition offers an aromatic profile of ripe red cherry, redcurrant, and hints of wild herbs, pepper, and subtle liquorice. The palate is concentrated and well balanced, with supple tannins, freshness, and a fine structure, leading to a long and persistent finish. This approachable style is generous yet elegant, suitable for enjoying in its youth.
Winemaking
The wine is crafted from 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah. Grapes are harvested by hand and fully destemmed before fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete vats. Traditional techniques, including pumping over and délestage, are employed to extract colour, flavour, and phenolic structure. Following fermentation, approximately 50% of the wine is aged for 12 months in oak foudres, with the remainder in tanks, producing a harmonious blend that expresses both fruit and terroir.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with roast lamb, braised meats, Provençal stews, or mature cheeses. Also excellent alongside dishes seasoned with herbs and pepper.
