A limited production, single vineyard wine from the excellent Bodegas Peique. Production was limited to around 600 bottles.
Tasting note:
Intense and complex, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits (cherries, blackberries, plums), spicy notes, wild herbs, mineral touches, and a smoky or toasted background from the barrel, plus hints of cocoa. On the palate it is full-bodied, powerful yet balanced and harmonious, with abundant but elegant tannins. It has good acidity, freshness, and a long, mineral finish.
Winemaking:
The wine is made from grapes sourced from a single plot (paraje) called "Mata los Pardos" in Valtuille de Abajo. The old vines, approximately 90 years old, are trained in the goblet style and grown in sandy and clay soils with the presence of rounded river stones (canto rodado) and slate, at an altitude of around 500-550 meters.
The wine is produced using traditional methods with minimal intervention. Fermentation is with indigenous yeasts in open 500-liter oak barrels, including a portion of stems (one-third whole clusters), for 35-40 days. Following fermentation the wine is matured for 12 months in those same used French oak barrels.
ABV: 14%
