A refined English sparkling wine from Hattingley Valley in Hampshire, The English Gent captures the estate’s signature precision and aromatic style, combining Bacchus and Pinot Gris to deliver freshness, lift and quiet complexity.
Tasting Notes:
Pale lemon in the glass with a fine, persistent mousse, the nose is lifted and expressive, offering aromas of blossom, pear and white meadow flowers. The palate follows with bright citrus notes of grapefruit and orange peel, alongside white stone fruit and crisp green apple. A subtle golden apple character emerges on the finish, supported by refreshing acidity and a clean, dry, elegant structure.
Winemaking:
Made from a blend of Bacchus (74%) and Pinot Gris (26%), the fruit is hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve aromatic purity, followed by a short period on lees before bottling. The wine then undergoes extended lees ageing in bottle, building texture and finesse while retaining its fresh, vibrant character.
Food Pairing:
An excellent match for roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes and lightly spiced vegetarian plates. Equally enjoyable as a standalone aperitif, where its aromatic clarity and fine mousse can be fully appreciated.
