From Bodegas Alceño, one of Jumilla’s oldest continuously operating wineries (established 1870), this Monastrell is grown in the dry, sunny vineyards of southeastern Spain that are well-suited to this indigenous variety. Jumilla’s hot days, cool nights and limestone-rich soils help develop ripe, expressive dark fruit flavours while retaining freshness and balance in the finished wine.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby in the glass, the wine shows inviting aromas of blackberry and plum with gentle spice and peppery notes emerging on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy dark fruit, soft tannins and a hint of savoury spice, finishing with vibrant freshness and natural balance that reflects the region’s sun-soaked character.
Winemaking:
Made from 100% Monastrell, the grapes are harvested from well-exposed vineyards and vinified with traditional fermentation methods at controlled temperatures to preserve fruit purity. The emphasis is on fruit expression and approachable structure, with minimal oak influence to maintain the varietal’s natural character.
Food Pairing:
A versatile Spanish red that pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted lighter meats such as chicken and pork, meat-based pasta dishes, and plates featuring savoury spices or tomato-based sauces. Its bright fruit and soft tannins also make it excellent with hard cheeses.
