Vranec has become the signature red grape of North Macedonia, increasingly recognised for producing deep-coloured, full-bodied wines with impressive intensity and character. This example from Ezimit Winery showcases the variety’s potential on the international stage, combining layers of dark fruit with subtle complexity and a distinctive sense of place.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby in colour, the nose is rich and expressive, offering aromas of blackberry, plum and dark cherry alongside hints of spice and liquorice. On the palate it is full-bodied with vibrant fruit concentration and a smooth, rounded texture. Although only a small proportion of the wine is matured in barrel, it displays remarkable depth and complexity, finishing with soft tannins and lingering dark fruit notes.
Winemaking:
Produced from 100% Vranec, the wine reflects the variety’s natural power and structure. Minimal barrel maturation preserves the purity of fruit while adding subtle complexity, resulting in a wine that balances intensity with approachability.
Food Pairing:
Pairs well with grilled meats, hearty stews and Mediterranean dishes. Its full-bodied structure and dark fruit profile also complement mature cheeses and rich vegetarian cuisine.
ABV: 13.5%
