A refined and characterful Cabernet Franc from old vines in the heart of Chinon, this expressive red from Domaine de la Marinière combines concentrated fruit with the freshness and savoury elegance associated with the Loire Valley. The age of the vines brings additional depth and complexity, while the 2023 vintage retains an appealing vibrancy and approachable style.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby red in colour, the nose is expressive and layered, revealing aromas of ripe black cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant, complemented by notes of violet, graphite, dried herbs and subtle spice. The palate is medium-bodied and concentrated, with generous dark berry fruit supported by fine, polished tannins and lively acidity. Delicate earthy and mineral notes add complexity, leading to a long, fresh and well-balanced finish.
Winemaking:
Produced exclusively from carefully selected Cabernet Franc grapes grown on established old vines in the Chinon appellation. Lower yields naturally provide greater concentration and intensity, while controlled fermentation and gentle extraction preserve the wine’s aromatic character and freshness. Careful maturation allows the fruit, tannins and savoury elements to integrate while maintaining a clear expression of the vineyard.
Food Pairing:
An excellent match for roast lamb, duck breast, grilled beef and slow-cooked pork. It also pairs beautifully with game dishes, mushroom-based recipes, lentil casseroles, charcuterie and mature cheeses.
