A refined and classically styled Pessac-Léognan from Château Cantelys, an estate belonging to the Cathiard family of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. From the excellent 2016 vintage, this elegant Left Bank red combines ripe dark fruit with the smoky, mineral and savoury character associated with the appellation, offering polished structure and attractive maturity.
Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet red in colour, the nose opens with blackcurrant, black cherry and ripe plum, followed by cedar, graphite and delicate violet notes. The palate is medium to full-bodied and finely balanced, with dark berry fruit framed by polished tannins and fresh acidity. Hints of tobacco, woodsmoke, liquorice and warm spice add complexity, while a subtle gravelly minerality brings definition to the long, savoury and composed finish.
Winemaking:
Produced from a classic Bordeaux blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, grown on the gravel-rich soils of Pessac-Léognan. Careful selection and controlled fermentation preserve the purity and structure of the fruit, while maturation in French oak develops additional texture and complexity. The combination of ripe fruit, fine tannins and distinctive smoky minerality creates a polished expression of the appellation.
Food Pairing:
An excellent match for roast beef, grilled lamb, duck breast and venison. It also pairs beautifully with beef Wellington, wild mushrooms, slow-cooked meat dishes, truffle and mature hard cheeses.
ABV: 13.5%
