A rich and polished Right Bank Bordeaux from Château Clos de Boüard, an estate in Montagne-Saint-Émilion established by Coralie de Boüard, whose family is closely associated with Château Angélus. The highly regarded 2016 vintage shows impressive depth and refinement, combining ripe dark fruit with supple texture, freshness and well-integrated oak in a generous yet elegant expression of the appellation.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby-garnet in colour, the nose is layered with ripe black plum, blueberry and black cherry, followed by violet, liquorice and subtle cedar. The palate is plush and concentrated, with succulent dark fruit wrapped in smooth, finely textured tannins and balanced by a fresh seam of acidity. Notes of cocoa, espresso, sweet tobacco and gentle spice emerge with air, while a touch of graphite brings definition to the long, rounded and savoury finish.
Winemaking:
Produced predominantly from Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on the clay and limestone soils of Montagne-Saint-Émilion. Careful vineyard selection and precise vinification emphasise ripe fruit, texture and freshness, while maturation in French oak brings additional depth, structure and subtle toasted complexity. The result balances the generosity of Merlot with the aromatic lift and backbone of the Cabernet varieties.
Food Pairing:
An excellent match for braised beef, roast lamb, duck breast and grilled rib-eye steak. It also pairs beautifully with slow-cooked pork, wild mushrooms, truffle dishes, hearty lentil casseroles and mature cheeses.
ABV: 14.5%
