The second wine of the renowned Château Montrose, La Dame de Montrose offers an elegant and immediately appealing expression of this celebrated Saint-Estèphe estate. From the excellent 2016 vintage, it combines generous Merlot fruit with the structure and freshness of Cabernet Sauvignon, delivering a polished Left Bank Bordeaux with impressive depth, refinement and developing complexity.

Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet red in colour, the nose is expressive with aromas of cassis, black cherry and ripe plum, complemented by violet, cedar and graphite. The palate is supple and beautifully composed, with dark berry fruit framed by fine, polished tannins and fresh acidity. As it opens, notes of tobacco, liquorice, cocoa and savoury spice emerge, alongside a subtle earthy character. The finish is long and harmonious, with lingering black fruit, cedar and mineral notes.

Winemaking:
Produced predominantly from Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, sourced from the vineyards of Château Montrose overlooking the Gironde Estuary. The estate’s deep gravel soils over clay provide excellent drainage while helping maintain freshness through the growing season. Careful vinification and maturation in French oak create a wine with the structure and complexity of Saint-Estèphe while offering a softer, more approachable expression than the château’s Grand Vin.

Food Pairing:
An excellent match for roast beef, rack of lamb, venison and duck breast. It also pairs beautifully with braised beef, wild mushrooms, lentil dishes, truffle and mature hard cheeses.

ABV: 13%
