A refined and expressive aged rum from Réunion, Isautier Alfred 12 Year Old is a tribute to Alfred Isautier, the visionary behind the house’s iconic triangular bottle and a key figure in its modernisation. Produced in Saint-Pierre, this traditional molasses-based rum reflects the island’s warm tropical ageing conditions and Isautier’s long-standing expertise in crafting elegant, complex aged spirits.
Distilled in column stills and matured for 12 years in a combination of new French oak and fine-grained, previously used barrels, it develops a layered and characterful profile that balances fruit, spice and wood influence with notable finesse.
Tasting Notes:
Deep amber in colour, the nose is expressive and finely composed, opening with sandalwood, blond tobacco and dried fruits, alongside candied citrus peel and subtle spice. As it develops, deeper aromas of toasted oak, vanilla and a gentle resinous quality emerge. The palate is rounded and structured, with notes of caramel, roasted nuts and dark chocolate, lifted by orange zest and a subtle menthol freshness. The finish is long and evolving, combining candied fruit, warming spice and fine oak tannins with a faint mineral, almost saline edge.
Production:
Made from molasses and distilled in column stills, the rum undergoes an extended maturation process in Réunion’s tropical climate, beginning in new French oak before continuing in seasoned barrels. This long ageing period allows for deep integration of wood and spirit, building complexity while retaining balance and lift.
Serve Style:
Best enjoyed neat at room temperature in a tulip glass, allowing time for the aromatics to open. A contemplative sipping rum, equally suited to a quiet digestif moment.
ABV: 45%
