Description

Luis Peique represents the pinnacle of Bodegas Peique’s work with Mencía and is produced only in exceptional vintages. Named in honour of the family patriarch, this limited-edition wine is sourced from very old vineyards and crafted to express the depth, structure and ageing potential that Bierzo’s historic sites can deliver. Bottled in magnum, it offers an extended and graceful evolution in bottle.

Tasting Notes:
Deep and concentrated in colour, the nose is complex and refined, combining ripe dark fruit with floral notes, spice and subtle hints of cocoa and liquorice. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, with well-integrated tannins and a sense of balance that reflects its extended ageing. Layers of black cherry, plum and savoury nuances unfold towards a long, composed and persistent finish.

Vineyard & Winemaking:
Produced from 100% Mencía sourced from very old vines, some aged between 80 and 90 years, grown in small vineyard parcels across Bierzo. Following careful vinification, the wine was aged for approximately 16 months in 500-litre French oak barrels. Production of the 2014 vintage was extremely limited, with just 600 standard bottles and 100 magnums released.

Food Pairing:
A structured, mature wine suited to robust dishes such as game, red meats and well-aged cheeses.

ABV: 14%
