Description

A beautifully approachable English apple brandy from The Somerset Cider Brandy Company, produced at Burrow Hill in the heart of Somerset. Distilled from traditional West Country cider apples and matured for three years in oak casks, Somerset Royal combines vibrant orchard fruit with gentle warmth and mellow woody complexity. Fresh, fragrant and elegantly rounded, it is an inviting introduction to the distinctive character of Somerset Cider Brandy.

Tasting Notes:
Bright golden amber in colour, the nose is fresh and expressive with aromas of ripe apple, baked pear and apple blossom complemented by hints of vanilla, honey and gentle oak spice. The palate is smooth and warming, with flavours of crisp orchard fruit, caramelised apple and subtle toffee supported by a delicate oak influence. Notes of cinnamon, toasted wood and a touch of citrus peel add complexity, leading to a clean, mellow and pleasantly warming finish.

Brandy making:
Produced from traditional Somerset cider apple varieties grown in the orchards surrounding Burrow Hill. The apples are pressed and fermented into cider before being distilled in copper pot stills to concentrate their natural fruit character and aromatic complexity. The spirit is then matured for three years in oak casks, allowing the youthful apple freshness to develop greater depth, softness and subtle vanilla and spice notes while retaining its distinctive orchard fruit character.

Food Pairing:
An excellent match for mature Somerset Cheddar, apple tart, fruitcake and toasted walnuts. It also pairs beautifully with pork terrine, pâté, caramel-based desserts and dark chocolate. Particularly enjoyable served neat as an after-dinner digestif.

ABV: 42%
