A vibrant and contemporary Australian single malt from Starward Distillery in Melbourne, Left-Field brings a fresh perspective to traditional whisky making. Matured entirely in Australian red wine barrels, it combines generous tropical fruit, bright citrus and warming spice with the rich, rounded character of wine-seasoned oak. Smooth, expressive and wonderfully approachable, it is a distinctive whisky that reflects Starward's innovative spirit and Melbourne's celebrated food and wine culture.
Tasting Notes:
Warm golden amber in colour with subtle copper highlights, the nose is fragrant and inviting with aromas of ripe peach, tropical fruit and red berries complemented by notes of vanilla, toasted oak and gentle spice. The palate is smooth and fruit-forward, revealing flavours of pineapple, orchard fruit and caramel alongside hints of redcurrant, cocoa and cinnamon. A lively citrus freshness balances the richness, while soft oak tannins and a rounded texture lead to a long, warming finish with lingering fruit and delicate spice.
Production:
Produced from 100% malted barley at Starward Distillery in Melbourne, where the city's famously changeable climate encourages interaction between the maturing spirit and its oak casks. Left-Field is matured exclusively in Australian red wine barrels, including those previously used for Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. These casks contribute vibrant fruit flavours, subtle tannins and gentle spice, creating a distinctive single malt that combines the richness of whisky with the expressive character of Australian wine.
Food Pairing:
An excellent match for grilled steak, barbecued meats, dark chocolate and mature cheeses. It also pairs beautifully with caramel desserts, roasted nuts, berry-based puddings and rich chocolate brownies. Equally enjoyable neat, over ice or in a refreshing whisky highball.
