Description

A classic mature Pauillac from the highly regarded Fifth Growth Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, the 1995 vintage shows the estate’s hallmark combination of Cabernet-driven structure, purity and understated elegance. Now beautifully evolved, it offers a refined expression of mature Bordeaux, with savoury complexity, polished tannins and the graphite-inflected character so closely associated with Pauillac.

Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet in colour with brick-red tones at the rim, the nose is complex and mature, revealing aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plum alongside cedar, tobacco, graphite and dried herbs. Further notes of leather, cigar box and forest floor emerge with time in the glass. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a core of savoury dark fruit. Mineral and earthy notes add depth, leading to a long, composed and classically structured finish.

Winemaking:
Produced predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, sourced from the estate’s gravel-rich vineyards in Pauillac. Traditional fermentation is followed by maturation in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop structure and complexity while retaining its distinctive freshness and precision. Extended bottle ageing has softened the tannins and brought greater harmony to the wine’s fruit, cedar and savoury elements.

Food Pairing:
An excellent match for roast beef, rack of lamb, venison and slow-cooked beef dishes. It also pairs beautifully with wild mushrooms, truffle-based dishes, game birds and mature hard cheeses. Careful decanting to remove sediment is recommended, with only moderate aeration needed to preserve its mature aromatic character.

ABV: 12.5%
