2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru 'Aux Boudots', Moillard Grivot, Burgundy, France
There's no doubting that the Cotes de Nuits had the best of the growing conditions in 2012. The whole of the Cote d'Or may have enjoyed some wonderful autumn sunshine, but it was the Cotes de Nuits that avoided the worst of the dreadful early season weather. The result is wines of exceptional concentration, and in the top sites, such as this 1er Cru, producers made wines that have aged extremely well.
This wine is richly textured and at 8 years of age still displays an alluring aroma of dark cherry, raspberry and toasted oak. It continues on the palate, where the mature fruit has developed a great harmony with the earthier tones that have developed. Great drinking now.
2018 Marsannay, Moillard Grivot, Burgundy, France
Such is the aromatic intensity of the nose on this wine you could be forgiven for thinking it was from the New World. It's got an incredible aroma, combining fruit, spice and a floral element. On the palate it is rather more Burgundian. It is elegant and vibrant on the palate and even in its youth it is showing a lovely balance between youthful fruit and hints of spice.
2016 Savigny Les Beaune 'La Dominode', Jean Marc Pavelot
2015 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavieres, Jean-Jacques Girard, Burgundy, France
An delicious wine from the excellent 2015 vintage for Red Burgundy.
Jean-Jacques Girard is known for his aromatic and pure reds and this is a perfect example. The fruit is sweet and pure, with raspberry and blueberry dominating. On the palate the 15 months ageing in oak contribute hints of juniper and clove, and there is a backbone of tannins that suggest this wine will continue to develop for 4-5 years.
2018 Pommard, Moilard Grivot, Burgundy, France
Deep red in colour with ruby highlights. The red fruits blend elegantly with toast and spice notes. On the palate the wine is ample and generous, with great tannins on the finish. Ageing will bring complexity.
Another stunning red Burgundy from the excellent 2018 vintage.

You don't need to go above village level to find wines of depth, comcentration, complexity and great balance, and that is exactly what we have here. 2012 Pommard 1er Cru 'Les Rugiens', Moillard Grivot, Burgundy, France
Production may be down in 2012 due to some adverse early season weather, but the grapes that survived basked in some exceptional autumn sun and ripened beautifully. The 1er Cru vineyards were given particular attention and the grapes were nurtured through to glorious maturity. The result here is a wine with great concentration and power. It combines earthy, smokey, spice with vibrant cassis, and at 8 years old it is at the perfect drinking age.
This is a wine to be savoured, and it's offered at an exceptional price for a 1er Cru.
2014 Gevrey Chambertin 'Symphonie', Domaine Burguet, Burgundy, France
Aromas of pure raspberries and damsons with spice. The palate is concentrated with ripe, sweet fruit flavours, chocolate and spice, The tannins are smooth and silky giving texture and structure to this skilfully crafted wine.
Winemaking at Domaine Burguet is traditional. After a very soft (100%) destemming, the grapes go through a second sorting table, the goal being of course to let in only the best grapes. The wine is vinified with the natural yeasts which are present on the skin, no enzymes or any other additive added. No fining, no filtration. Very long elevage, 18 months in casks. Minimal SO2 dosage. They want the wine to express both the fruit and the millesime and they let the wine vinify without forcing it into a mold. No temperature control is used.
2015 Morey St Denis, Moillard Grivot
2016 Santenay 1er Cru Gravieres, Lucien Muzard et fils, Burgundy, France
In 2005 Muzard went organic in their vineyards and gained certification for biodynamic farming with the 2008 vintage. Their decision to work biodynamically was taken to sustain and improve the health of their land. It has also had a noticeable effect on the wines as the quality and complexity has evolved beautifully over the years.
Intensely crimson, this is a very aromatic wine, with delicious notes of blackcurrant, blackberries, and almonds. The mouth is ample and powerful with moderately formed tannins. Beautiful length in this wine, which will improve for several more years.
The average age of the vines is 55 years. Pinot Noir grape variety grown on clay and chalky soil with Cordon de Royat pruning. Harvesting is all carried out by hand in small cases of 10 kgs, Reducing vine yields and adoption of some modern winemaking techniques has resulted in spotlessly pure, great value Burgundy. They started using conveyor belts rather than pumps to keep crushing to an absolute minimum as well as acquiring a new temperature controlled fermentation facility with new wooden vats and a brand new precision controlled press. In 2005 they also converted to managing the vineyard organically and gained certification for biodynamic farming in 2008.
