2019 Sauvignon Blanc, La Girouette, Languedoc, France
A staff favourite here, and one of the best value wines in our range. It's just as good Sauvignon Blanc should be; fresh, aromatic, vibrant and very easy to drink. There is a classic herbal, slightly leafy edge to the tropical aroma, yet on the palate it is citrus characteristics that come through on the finish. In all this is a classic Sauvignon with great versatility.
2019 Sauvignon Blanc, Marquis de Goulaine, Loire Valley, France
This is a great little Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. It may not quite be a Sancerre but it still shows some fresh gooseberry and a hint of riper tropical fruit. There is a subtle herbal note on the finish, which is classic Sauvignon, and the acidity gives it a fresh lift at the end. This is definitely a wine to have in the rack as it will appeal to many white wine fans.
2020 Sauvignon Blanc, Umbrele, Vilie Timisului, Romania
Another great value wine from Romania, and a style that will appeal to many. This is a light and classic Sauvignon with the emphasis on fresh fruit on the palate and vibrancy on the finish.
2020 Sauvignon Blanc/Gros Manseng, Vignobles Fontan, Gascony, France
An exceptional southern French white from the Armagnac region. Vibrant and fruity Sauvignon Blanc is given a bit more depth and roundness with the addition of some Gros Manseng.
Lots of Intensity on the nose with ripe peach, pear and some exotic notes of pineapple. Full, rounded mouthfeel with apricot and hints of mango, backed up by juicy grapefruit citrus.
2020 Reuilly, Domaine Aujard, Loire Valley, France
Reuilly is a Loire Valley village not far from the famous villages of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume, and it's white wines are made in very much the same way and, whisper it, often to the same quality.
This Reuilly really stood out for us in recent tastings, and given the current price tag of good Sancerre it was a very easy decision to add it to the range.
It's got a vibrancy and minerality that good Loire Sauvignon should. There's a hint of passionfruit in the background, but the dominant characteristic is more vibrant apple and citrus with a hint of elderflower. A very versatile wine as at home with a delicate piece of fish as it is with well herbed roasted veg.
Viña Mariposa Blanco, Vino de España, Galicia, Spain
Dry, delicate whites are definitely in fashion at the moment, and that's exactly what we have here. The grape blend is Airen and Verdejo, both Spanish specialities, and here they have produced one of the easiest drinking wines we stock. Perfect for parties and large gatherings, it will be enjoyed by all.
2018 Lady White Blend, Lemberg, Tulbagh, South Africa
The Lady symbolizes the expressive characters captured by different varieties – the fragrance and richness of Viognier, the finesse of Hárslevelü, the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc, and the enticing texture that Semillon offers.
A blend of Viognier 53%, Hárslevelü 25%, Sauvignon Blanc 11% and Semillon 11%. Notes of orange zest and spice mingle with apricot and peach on the nose. There is rich intensity on the palate with excellent balance.
2019 'O' Haut-Poitou Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvion, Loire, France
A wonderfully fresh and zesty Sauvignon Blanc with a vibrant citrus zing to it.
This is from Jean-Pierre Sauvion, who almost single handedly is bringing the historic Haut-Poitou appellation back from near extinction. Based close to the city of Poitiers it is one of the most southerly Loire appellations and one that enjoys a good level of sunshine. Sauvignon Blanc is the key white grape here and in the last decade the wine quality has rocketed. We're very excited about the future of Haut-Poitou if this wine is anything to go by.
2019 Pouilly-Fumé, Domaine du Petit Soumard
The Pouilly-Fume from Domaine du Petit Soumade is just about as good as Sauvignon Blanc gets. It's aromatic and intense, with citrus and tropical fruit aromas leading to a palate that is fresh and vibrant.
2019 Sauvignon Blanc, Simonsvlei, Paarl, South Africa
This wonderful Sauvignon from Simonsvlei is full of tropical and stone fruit on the nose, leading to rich fruit on the palate with refreshing, zippy acidity.
2020 Sauvignon Blanc, Hans Greyl, Marlborough, New Zealand
A great example of the popular Marlborough style. Wonderfully clean and fresh with a fabulous aromatic intensity and lots of vibrant tropical fruit.
2020 Sauvignon Blanc Special Release, Santa Lucia, Central Valley, Chile
This great value Sauvignon from Chile packs in a lot of tropical fruit for the money. This ripe fruit is very well balanced with a refreshing acidity that keeps the wine dry and vibrant.
2019 Sauvignon Blanc, Castillo de Aresan, La Mancha, Spain
This wonderful organic Sauvignon Blanc is incredibly fresh and vibrant given the hot central Spain climate. They've managed to capture some lovely citrus notes that are common to many good Sauvignons. It's a touch lower in acidity and, therefore, rounder and softer in texture than the coolest climate Sauvignons, but we think this just adds to its allure.
2020 Sauvignon Blanc, Tohu, Marlborough, New Zealand
Produced entirely from grapes grown in Marlborough's famed Awatere Valley, the Tohu Sauvignon Blanc is an absolute triumph. It's brimming with ripe tropical fruit with a delicate herbal edge. There's a hint of citrus on the palate that gives the wine a refreshing lift to the finish. This is super quality Sauvignon Blanc.
Tohu’s owner, Wakatū, based in Nelson and Marlborough, is made up of 4,000 Maori families, all descendants of the four original tribes from the top of the South Island. We love their ethos – Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) is one of their core values that directs their business and relationship with their environment. With their regenerative agriculture approach, they are committed to protecting and enhancing the natural resources inherited from their ancestors and passing them on to future generations.
2019 Aotea Sauvignon Blanc, Seifried, Nelson, New Zealand
The Brightwater Sauvignon Blanc vines are grown in an extremely stony area of the vineyard, where water and nutrient levels are low. This helps us to restrict the plantsvigour and to crop at low levels. To further enhance the aromatics we removed leaves to allow light penetration and air movement around the fruiting zone. The 2017 Aotea Sauvignon Blanc has a powerful varietal nose. Ripe fruit elements with grapefruit and tropical melon are bright and flavoursome alongside crisp nettle and hints of blackcurrant. Well balanced natural acidity runs the length of the wine and supports layers of flavours on the palate.
2018 Barrel Fermented Sauvignon Blanc, Greystone, Waipara, New Zealand
From three separate blocks of Sauvignon Blanc, a traditional Bordeaux clone provides a classical backbone, while two Loire clones add tropical fruit characters to the blend.
Light golden in colour, this Sauvignon Blanc is rich, creamy and textural. It possesses ripe fruit flavours - a luscious mix of tropical and stone fruits – which are balanced perfectly with fruit-laden acidity. Wild fermented entirely in old oak with Loire clones adding texture and richness. Partial malolactic contributes to soft acidity and mouthfilling texture.
2019 Sancerre, Cave Laetitia Ducroux, Loire Valley, France
Domaine Ducroux is a ten hectare estate based in Crezancy. The vineyard is situated on clay and limestone soil, part of which contains some small pebbles, and this is where the Sauvignon is planted; helping to add ripeness and bring out some of the varietys fruit character in the wine. Incredibly the estate has been in the family since 1643 and Laetitia Ducroux, the current owner and winemaker, is the 11th generation, and first woman, to run the domaine.
2019 Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, The Accomplice, Riverina, Australia
Fresh, fruity, easy drinking dry white wine. Citrus and tropical flavours on the nose. The palate is balanced, ending with lively acidity.
half bottle - 2014 Les Remparts de Chateau Bastor-Lamontagne, Sauternes, Bordeaux, France
The "Le Remparts de Bastor" is a dessert wines made from young Semillon, Muscadet and Sauvignon vines from the Chateau Bastor Lamontagne estate. The bouquet has perfumes of sweet spices, honey and orange blossom and the taste is rich and balanced, persistent and fresh. It's a great value Sauternes.
2019 Château Bastor-Lamontagne 'Confidence', Bordeaux Blanc, France
What a stunning example of a Sauvignon blend (both Blanc and Gris), plus a little Semillon. This dry wine from a famous Sauternes estate is wonderfully fruity and herbal.
The Sauvignon Blanc grape, which is the majority in the wine blend, is distinguished by its freshness, finesse and liveliness. The Sauvignon Gris is synonymous with aromatic power while the Semillon harvested at its final maturity (just before the appearance of Botrytis) reveals all its roundness. In the winery, anxious to protect the aromas of the berries, the cellar master carries out a light pressing, followed by precise settling at a controlled temperature. The wine is matured on fine lees in 300-litre barrels, only part of which are made of new wood, to preserve freshness. Regular stirring of the lees is carried out during the 8 months preceding the skilful blending of these three Bordeaux grape varieties.
half bottle - 2016 Chateau Bastor-Lamontagne, Sauternes, Bordeaux, France
A fabulous wine from an exceptional Sauternes estate, Chateau Bastor Lamontagne. Luscious and sweet, yet with a lively acidity that gives it freshness and vibrancy.
2020 Sauvignon Blanc Reserva Privada, Aetos, Leyda Valley, Chile
The Sauvignon Blanc from Aetos' excellent Reserva Privada range is a very serious wine indeed. ALthough it has all the hallmarks of good Sauvignon; fresh acidity, slightly grassy notes and ripe tropical fruit, it also has a fantastic texture. There is a richness and mouthfilling quality that marks it out from other, sometimes slightly lean, Sauvignons. This is excellent and a favourite amongst the team here at Baythorne Wines.
2018 Sancerre, Chateau de Thauveney, Loire Valley, France
An exceptional Sancerre from a grand Loire producer. A very expressive nose of exotic fruits like pineapple, mango and grapefruit. On the palate this is a very fat and aromatic wine with a nice acidity to bring freshness.
An absolute staff favourite from the moment we first tasted it. The aroma is akin to a good Chablis, yet on the palate the fruit from the Sauvignon is more prominent.
Pale glowing yellow in colour, with greenish flexes. On the nose blended aromas of pear and apple are present, with notes of fresh juicy lime. On the palate is is pleasantly fresh with crisp acidity. It is reasonably full-bodied, with good balance.
2016 Les Remparts de Bastor-Lamontagne, Sauternes, Bordeaux, France
Located in Preignac, one of the five communes in the Sauternes appellation, Château Bastor-Lamontagne has 52 hectares of vineyards in a single block on siliceous-gravel soil that produces rich, vigorous wines.
Château Bastor-Lamontagne has always given priority to fruit expression and balance. Often considered a “modern Sauternes”, it is elegant, harmonious, and enjoyable at any time of the day. Although it can age very well, Bastor-Lamontagne is also delicious young thanks to its vivaciousness and finesse.
This is the estate's second wine, and as such is a little lighter and fresher in style, but still with a lovely mouthfilling richness. This wine is made to be drunk within about 6 years of the vintage when the tropical fruit flavours are still fresh and lively.
half bottle - 2015 Semillon Straw Wine, Vergelegen, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Ripe, tropical fruit abounds on the nose but the wine does not become dull and uninteresting due to marvelous acidity and freshness on the palate. Serve well chilled at 8-10 degrees Centigrade.
